With summer coming up, we’re all starting to think about our summer plans and vacations.  If you’re an RV enthusiast, one event you never want to miss, is the Annual RV Rally. This year, it’s being held in Louisville Kentucky, from June 21 – 24th.

The Good Sam Rally (formerly called the Great North American RV Rally) is an annual event hosted by the Good Sam Club, Camping World President’s Club, Coast to Coast Resorts, Woodall’s, Trailer Life Directory, and Trailer Life and MotorHome magazines.

Recreation vehicle owners from all over the country – and Canada – are expected. Attendance is projected to be around 4,000 RVs which accounts for about 10,000 people at the event each day.

There are more than 30 seminars scheduled for each day, all of which are included to registered attendees of The Rally (not including Day Pass holders). There will be seminars on places to go, on healthy cooking and there will even be an expert on hand to help spouses communicate better while living in an RV. Among the other seminar topics are:

  • Campground safety

  • Cell phones and mobile communications

  • Computers

  • Dinghy towing

  • Engine performance

  • Exterior and interior cleaning and maintenance

  • Financial planning

  • Hitches and towing

  • Motorhome chassis

  • Pet care on the road

  • Propane

  • RV insurance

  • RV tours

  • Suspension systems

There will be more than 350+ booths featuring the latest in RV products and services. Visitors will find everything from personalized license-plate frames and nametags to tow bars, jewelry and clothing. Beyond those will be more than 500 new units on display from some of the leading manufacturers and dealers in the United States. The Rally offers a unique opportunity to compare nearly every make and model in one location, as well as take test-drives.

Since most people attending The Rally are not from the local area, The Rally offers optional tours that showcase some of the best attractions of the region. Some of these tours include: Three Chimneys Farm, Holly Hill Inn and Equus Run Winery, Hidden Hill Nursery, Huber Farms, Turtle Run Winery and Schimpff’s Confectionery, Louisville Highlights – Kentucky Derby Museum and Louisville Slugger Museum, Old State Capitol, Jim’s Seafood and Kentucky Vietnam Memorial, Kentucky Highland Renaissance Festival, and Belle of Louisville Lunch Cruise to name a few.

One of the most popular exhibits at The Rally, the online area, has been expanded to accommodate the growing number of RVers who travel with laptops and enjoy Internet access. There are a couple of tutorials that are offered in this area also.

Dog Show – A majority of RV owners travel with pets, dogs being the most popular. So why not have a dog show? This year’s show is expected to draw dozens of dogs, plus hundreds of people watching in the grandstands, as dogs (and their owners) compete in numerous categories, with prizes to the winners.

Nightly entertainment – includes Sheryl Crow, Bert Bacharach and The Gatlin Brothers.

Elvis Impersonator Contest – Rally guests are invited to swivel their hips, strum a guitar, and croon those fabulous songs such as “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Jailhouse Rock” and more in the Rally’s first ever Elvis Impersonator Contest! Tryouts will be held throughout the Rally, and finalists will perform on Sunday night.

The Good Sam Rally, presented by DISH, provides a free youth activity program for children (ages 6-12) and an extensive program for teenagers (ages 13-17) where they will meet other youths involved with RVing families.

With a full schedule of activities, children and teens (ages 6-17) are occupied for nearly all Rally operation hours, so you are free to attend interesting seminars and peruse the exhibitor halls while your children or grandchildren enjoy social activities, have pizza parties, play games and just have fun. Trips to local places of interest are always included in the youth activities.

I’m thinking that if you don’t have an RV, you just might want to get down to Thornburg and pick one up at SAFFORD RV because this event sounds too good to miss!
